What is the Fair Use Policy (FUP) limit? (message "request limit reached")

If you see a message that you have reached the limit of requests (meaning any action in Sketch Engine), it means you exceeded the limit of requests within Sketch Engine per a specific time. This is subject to a fair use policy (FUP) in order to prevent massive overloading by individual users at the cost of others. See more about it in our Service Level Agreement (11th article):

The service is subject to a fair use policy (FUP) in order to prevent massive overloading by individual users at the cost of all others. The FUP applies to the number of search requests (not to the volume of data transferred) per one minute, one hour and one day, defined as any subsequent 60 seconds, 60 minutes and 24 hours, respectively, and defaulting to 50, 900 and 2,000 requests, respectively. Further requests will be denied automatically upon exceeding any of these limits. Applying FUP does not constitute a violation.
If you do not use any automatic script for accessing Sketch Engine, please only confirm that you are not a robot and you can continue to use Sketch Engine.

Otherwise, in case you are using API for automatic data retrieval from Sketch Engine, there are two options on how to avoid being blocked by our system:

  1. You can modify your scripts and decrease the number of requests according to our SLA. Please read our documentation on API on how to set correctly the time between particular requests.
  2. Request for increasing your FUP limit which is subject to additional prices. If you are interested in this option, please provide us more information about the estimated number of requests and your task.
